Microsoft Intellipoint 5.2: no Paning in Textpad

Since I installed Intellipoint 5.2 drivers I'm not able to pan (scroll with the middle mouse but-ton) in Textpad, though I activated autoscroll for this button.
With Intellipoint 4.1 it works fine, but my new mouse is not supported by this version. Is there anybody who knows a workaround?

I found half my problems with Windows went away when I uninstalled Intellipoint and Intellitype. I don't miss them :-)

I seem to remember Intellipoint can be configured to not interfere with certain applications (that you configure yourself), or am I thinking of Logitech's equally useless mouse 'helper'?
