Don't lock binary files when open in TextPad

Post by scottbilas »

TextPad appears to lock binary files when they're open. This is different from its behavior in text mode, and also appears to ignore the "Keep files locked while editing them" option in Preferences. So if I'm viewing a binary file that another program generates, I need to close the file in TextPad in between runs of that other program.

Request: don't lock binary files if that option is not set.

Minor feature request on the side: would be nice to have a way to switch to binary mode or back after a file is opened. I don't know how many times I've opened a file in Textpad and it opens in text mode by default. So I either have to close and re-open it in binary mode (using the dropdown in the Open dialog) or set a wildcard in the Binary document class to do it automatically.
