Disable multiple instances

Post by Gimlet »

If I select multiple files from Windows Explorer to open in TextPad how can I get it to open in just one instance instead of multiple instances of TextPad. I've done this:
Configure >> Preferences... >> General >> Unchecked the "Allow mutiple instances to run" option & checked the "Allow multiple files on the command line" option. Is there something else I should do?

I'm running version 4.7.2:32-bit edition - on WinXP Home Edition

TIA

Make sure that after you change your Preferences, you don't have another instance still open, or when you close that second, it's preference (that you hadn't changed), will undo your changes.

IE: to change your Preferences, close all but one instance, make your changes, close Textpad, then go for it.

Th@'s exactly what I did, sometimes TP opens lots of instances of itself, each with one open file & other times only 2 or 3 instances will open, each having multiple documents opened.:?

Thanks for the reply though :)

I have made a habit of making sure all documents are closed before making configuration changes.

Open single instance of TextPad.
Close all documents, including any blank documents.
Make Configuration, Preferences, changes to only have one instance.
Click Apply, OK.
Close TextPad.
Reopen TextPad, and configuration changes should be permanent and working now.
Hope this was helpful.............good luck,
Bob

Still not working properly.
If I select several documents, let's say they're all *.php, in Windows Explorer & hit [Enter] I get the problem stated above. If, after selecting the files, I right-click & choose Textpad from the context menu it will then open all the files in one instance. A bit strange but it will do the job.
Thanks
