Shared TextField via msn

Post by vernes »

Little explaination.

Me and a collegue produce the best result when we're working on thesame code, less errors, more creative solutions.
Anyway, this works great when we're sitting behind thesame system.

Problem is when we're teleworking.
Copying the source all the time and waiting for the other to check the changes made and making new suggestions, it's nothing compared to the work we produce when we meet up.

I'd like to see a feature where you can work on the code realtime, online.
For compilation, when you're done and wish to compile, you select the option, and the other coder is informed by an idicator that the other is ready to compile it.
When this coder also sets this option, the code is copiled on both systems and both get the individual result.

Just a personal opinion here.

That sounds really good - however it is possible with terminal services for 2 people to have access to the same virtual desktop.

If you have a spare box lying around, install windows 2000 server on it along with any apps you need eg textpad :) and then one of you can connect remotely to the machine and the other (if set up correctly) can also connect to the same session using terminal services manager.

Or

Install VNC or Remote Administrator, both of these allow someone else to connect to your computer and use the mouse and keyboard

Advantage with those options is that any program can be shared, not just textpad which might be the greatest application ever but you might occasionally need to use something else

The only problem is that that solution is quite extensive.
I don't have an extra box or have access to that software.

And since you actually already have a transportation layer via msn, You could just hook into that.

Microsoft Net Meeting would do something similar too.

How open is MSN for developers? Is it something you can play around with that much?
