duplicate window function

I used to use this older editor that had a duplicate window function. It is similar to the Window->Split function but would allow the user to tile vertically with the same window on both left and right panes. Any edits to either window would get saved in the same file when a save was performed. Is there a way to do this with the current editor? I have just been using the Window->Split function but it is kind of painful. A duplicate window function would be more useful.
