Custom menu captions for tools?

Post by Michael S. Sanders »

v4.7.1

In the preferences dialog within the Tools node the text under the 'Add' button speaks of renaming a tool.

The help topic 'How to Customize Tool Properties' eludes to naming a tool entry with: 'Menu text: Compile JAVA'.

I've file I'd like to run in its associated editor with a more descriptive caption than 'CONSTANTS.CSV' Is it possible to rename a tool myself?

Thanx for any input.
later on,
Mike

Configure->Preferences->Tools: highlight the line you want to rename
and then single click it.
Hmmm, F2 (rename) does not work, a std key in windows...
Then I open up and see
the person fumbling here is me
a different way to be

Is F2 a standard key for rename?

In most programs that I know F2 is used to set a bookmark...

Spot on. It's all about nuance it appears...
Two single clicks rather than, err... a single double click.

btw, accelerators work too:

&My Tool = My Tool

Thanks for the heads up!

I'm guessing it depends on the context, but no prices for guessing this one, IMHO ;)

Custom menu captions for tools?

The only way I have found to rename the custom tools is editing the registy data for those tools. You will find it under: "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Helios\TextPad 4\Tools" then the tools are listed numerically under that. You need to change the value in the "MenuText" entry.

I agree, going to the Registry is not needed. Perhaps a little further nuance is needed?

 Try this explanation:
1. From the Main Menu, Left click on Configuration, Preferences.
2. In the Lefr frame, Left Click on Tools
3. In the Right frame, see the list of Tools.
4. Left click once on the name to be modified.
5. Wait one second.
6. Left click once more on the name to be modified.
7. Wait one second.
8. Press Home/End or Left/Right Arrow key to active the name editing.

A double-click does not work. A noticeable delay between two single clicks is needed. And then the Home/End/Left/Right key will allow you to see that you are in the Edit mode.
Hope this was helpful.............good luck,
Bob

Single click easier than REGEDIT!

Post by hollewc »

Yep, I see that now. It sure is a LOT easier than mucking around in the registry editor!
