We have been using TextPad with an evaluation version. A few days ago we started having problems with the program locking up and we had to shut down TextPad and restart it.
Today we purchased the licenses and downloaded the newest version. Now when we start TextPad and then open a file, the program completely locks up. It is completely unusable.
I saw the notes about this from another user and the response by Keith MacDonald. I checked and we do have the shellext.dll version 1.0.3.0.
Please help us. We now have this software that we can't use at all. TextPad is a program that we need for our editing XML imports. Please help us if you can.

textpad locks up on many systems if context menu used
There are many systems where textpad locks up if the context menu option is used. Replacing the shellext.dll will not help. The only solution for now is to turn off the 'context menu' option in the 'put shortcuts to textpad on' portion of the general preferences.
I think that two different problems are being discussed in this thread:
1. Lockups when opening files on a server. This is due to virus checkers, as explained here:

2. Lockups when opening a file using context menu commands in the Open File dialog box. This is due to bugs in Windows 2000 and XP which are now explained in the Known Problems forum, here:
