TextPad shows up as NotePad

Post by Tommy Sessions »

When I type an article on TP and wrap it to 50, save as: bca articles, it shows up as NotePad. I have deleted NP in my Start Menu>Programs.
Is there a way to make TP show up as TP after I have saved it?
Sometimes I forget to check the spelling, plus get the word count :( and then I have to copy-past back into TP in order to get these specs. :x
It should be noted here, that I am not the brightest bear in the bush!

Addition to TextPad vs NotePad

Post by Tommy Sessions »

Let me add this to my last post.
After I use TP to type articles, wrap them to 50, and go to aanounce and past it into their block, the lines are not wrap to 50.
Do I have to hit "enter/return" at the end of 50 characters each time?
I was in hopes of finding something that would wrap it for me.
TIA

You asked:
Do I have to hit "enter/return" at the end of 50 characters each time? I was in hopes of finding something that would wrap it for me.
Try this:
=================
From the Menu bar, select Configure, Preferences.
Left click on the Plus sign next to Document classes.
Left click on Default class.
At the lower right, just above the buttons, enter a checkmark in the box to "Word break at column number". Enter 50 into the box for the break position.
Click on Apply, OK.
======================

Hope this helps........
Hope this was helpful.............good luck,

TextPad vs Notepad

Post by Tommy Sessions »

Thanks, I already have it set for 50 c.
And, before I type, I click on Wrap.
The problem is when I "Save As" it turns to NotePad and doesn't wrap
when I send it through Outlook Express.
It looks good, as TextPad, but I've posted a couple of articles to aanonce
at yahoo, and it didn't wrap at 50.
I asked God to teach me to use the computer last year, and boy, has He
ever!

TextPad vs NotePad

Post by Tommy Sessions »

After I type an article in TP I hit "save as" from file and save it to the "Articles" folder in My Documents.
Then later when I want to edit that article, check spelling, word count, make additions/subtractions, etc., it comes up at NotePad. I have learned to get my word count and spelling done before I save it, but in NotePad I have no way to make it wrap.
I wrote a couple yesterday and hit the "Enter" button at a certain point, app. 50 characters. I think it may work.
But, I was wondering if I could get rid of NotePad, completely. Last year I did this, then I decided I didn't care for TextPad, then my hard drive caught the "click-of-death", etc.
I can't remember how to get rid of NotePad, but I remember last year the instructions on TextPad told me to delete NotePad; this time I didn't see those instructions.
Any ideas?

you have to associate the file extension to textpad.

See Configure - Preferences - Associated Files.

Ok, Mudflap...I mean MudGuard :?
I went there, even read the Help section. Which of the extensions do I
associate with it? There was a long list, in Greek. :o
What do I put in the Description? :?
I really appreciate what you are doing, I know you are a great teacher,
but...it's what, or who, you are trying to teach.

1. When you "save as", that means save as a certain file type (for example ".txt"); it does not mean the location, (e.g., "Articles").

2. So you apparently have the files you Save In "Articles," saved as ".txt" files, and "NotePad" is the program associated with the ".txt" file type. So you need to change the file association for ".txt" to TextPad from NotePad. You do this from any Explorer Window: A. Open "Windows Explorer", Click "Tools", then "Folder Options", then click on the "File Types" tab, then scroll down to the "TXT" file type and select it by clicking on it. Click on the "Change" button. Select TextPad from the list of Programs that appears.

There are tools in the Add-on's section here that substitute TextPad for NotePad whenever NotePad is called. However I do not see one there that specifically mentions XP, so I do not know if you have this option. (top of page http://www.textpad.com/add-ons/index.html).

You could allso open the file from within TextPad rather than by clicking on the file.

To straighten up linebreaks from within TextPad after pasting from some program (like an e-mail client) use: CTRL+J or CTRL+SHIFT+J.
Best Wishes!

Thanks, MO. I made the change to TextPad...maybe it'll work this time.
I appreciate that. :D
Are you talking about keeping the lines close to even on the right when
you suggest using CTRL +J, etc.? I'm gonna try it anyway.

P.S. I just paid for Text Pad. How long does it take to get the little box
to stop coming up everytime I open TP?

Which box do you mean? The splash screen?
Just configure it away: Configure - Preferences - General - Display startup logo
(maybe this option only exists after registering)

Or do you mean the reminder box?
This will disappear as soon as you have entered the license code which you should have got from Helios by mail (Help - Enter License code)

Thanks, again, MudGuard!
I went in Con-Pre-Gen-Display startup logo and unchecked it, but the
little window still shows up. It's the one telling you they appreciate you
using, but you need to buy. It is so fast, I can't read it.
I think it may be the reminder box
I guess I haven't received the code from Helios, at least I can't find it.
But, it's only been two or three days...they may be waiting for the bank
to approve payment.
Thanks again.
P.S. I did what MO told me to do and it worked. :D

 I owe Helios and apology. I never sent the check. I'm sorry,
Helios, for the inconvience I caused by complaining about the little notice window.
I'll do better next time. Just wanted ya'll to know.
