I found a possible identification of the cause and its resolution on the following page. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2274 ... 158-errors. Explains why the setup fails on a few machines and not others.

I get the 1158 error with no other message when trying to install Textpad 5.4.2. Installshield web site says that this may be a problem in reading strings in the setup.ini file. I did update the Windows Installer as suggested elsewhere in this forum but with no luck. Anyone else encounter this error ...
