Just brought in a new writer to the office and he was asking for this as well. I had not thought about it (after over 20 years using this) but it would be helpful and save me using 2 key strokes over and over again when I need a piece to fill a certain amount of space. HOW about it ... right up ...

Textpad 8 is out... still no proper spell checker

I will stay with V7... until they install a proper spell checker. And ASCII ANSI and UNICODE are still confusing in V8.

Interestingly I can create a FOLDER PORTAL on my desktop. I did not know about this before. I go to the OPEN drop down in TextPad then path to the directory on the other computer I wish to access. While this Window is open I hover over the network directory with my mouse and while holding down the ...

This also happens for me (Win10 x64). Specifically, once I follow a shortcut in the open file dialog, every folder change (including that one) then triggers a modal saying the file doesn't exist and asks if I would like to create it. Clicking either Yes or No yields the same result: nothing happens ...

V. 7.5.1 Locking

New Version 7.5.1 locks up on occasion. 64 bit version. This has happened on two different computers in our office. We find we have to go into "Task Manager" and close through the "Services" section to close it down. (Right click on icon will not shut it down.)

Just to keep others up to date on this issue I received the following response on Dec 17, 2014

Hi Morley,

Thanks for reporting this behaviour. It is a bug and it will be fixed in the next upgrade, so until then your current work around will have to suffice.

I have been a bit tardy in posting here. I have been assured this problem is being looked at and should be corrected by the next upgrade. I have another Question. A most important question. I have been posting a lot here but never asked it before.

DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE THIS PROBLEM OR CAN THEY REPLICATE THE SAME ISSUE?

We are soldiering on with this problem and have also found that if we can save our files in DOS and PC the copy will utilize the "dumb quotes" as we need instead of the "smart quotes" as now utilized by the TextPad designers. My queries with another forum posed an interesting question; Exactly why ...

Just to keep all of you updated... we have given up and simply set up a macro that replaces ANSI 147 and 148 with 34 and 145 and 146 with 39. This seems to work almost all the time. We have noticed that this problem does not always come from our news service feed. Some does but the most consistent ...

You are, of course, talking about MS Word. We do not use this because of the numerous hidden codes that can cause a great deal of grief once the copy is imported into InDesign. Machine quotes are far better for the editing and pre-layout stage. We then expect the desktop software to take care of the ...

I bombed my TextPad back to version 6 32 Bit from 7 and 64 Bit. This did not help... which leads me to believe I might be the only one suffering from this problem. If so it could be some external problem with my computer setup. Would be nice to hear from others who may have the same issue. I am ...

It was interesting to find my Editor was using a 32 Bit version of TextPad 6 on his computer and his spell checker did not have this problem. He had problems saving words to a personal dictionary but did not have the apostrophe issue.
