Banned for mentioning the feature of another text editor?
Just received a message from an admin that I'd be banned if I mentioned another text editor again in any post. Yet throughout the forum are recent comparisons to other text editors. Did anyone else receive the same private message or are forums not really "open" for discussion? I don't see how ...

I used to be TextPad's greatest cheerleader years ago, but without continued development, TextPad is now abandonware. Text editors are no longer simple derivations from Windows Notepad anymore. As a long-time registered TextPad user, I'd love to pay for an upgrade sometime this decade, and from the ...

Has development on TextPad all but stopped?
I'm just wondering if Helios has ceased all TextPad development, since it has been on version 4.x for many years now. I use UltraEdit for large files and for its speed since TextPad just can't handle bigger files without bogging down. But if TextPad is done, I'd like to know so I can leave it behind ...

UltraEdit is far more robust, though
Like Jesus, I love TextPad. Everything it has implemented, it has done well and in extremely efficient ways. In other words, as a user, I'm clicking once or twice rather than 3, 4, or 6 times for most features and functions. But if you want real power in a text/hex editor, check out UltraEdit ...

v4.7.1 - Excellent Upgrade! Hats off to Helios
Bliss Report : I just opened a 255Mb file in 22 seconds, and scrolled to the bottom of the file (3.14 million lines) in only 8 seconds in this latest version, made 5Mb of changes and saved the file. That's using wordwrap and a proportional font (Verdana 10pt) on an 2.4GHz, 2Gb RAM, WinXP machine ...

Recommending TextPad
There's lots to love about TextPad as we know - the user interface itself is well-thought out and includes good design concepts. Whenever I'm in a new office (every 2-3 days), I download and show them TextPad and usually get an email a month later saying they love it.

TextPad 4.7b works great for plain text and most html editing. However, if you're doing programming, XML, or database work - esp. with larger files - I'd recommend UltraEdit instead. While I recommend TextPad to most people, for those who need a robust text/hex editor, I strongly recommend they move ...
