Help -> Printing / heaers

Goto: Configure | Preferences Follow the treeview along the path Document classes | Text | Printing In the "Parameters" group you and tailor the header and footer text. How did you manage to get that text into your header line anyway? I'm pretty sure that it's not the default of TextPad......

Macro compiler

As far as I know there is some activity in finding out how the marcos are compiled. After having found out enough about hte current macros, I suppose the next step would be to create a macro compiler-or-whatever-you-call-it. If there are plans in making an already existing programming language, I'd ...

Editable Macros

YAFR (Yet another feature request  ): I'd really like to see some kind of a macro language, as available in other editors. The semware editor was good at this several years ago already, UltraEdit's macro support isn't too bad either. Of course the "uppermost of the "toppermost" ...

Additional attributes for syntax highlighting

I'd (still) like to see additional attributes added to the possibilities of syntax higlighting, especially bold, italics and underline.

Re: TextPad vs. MultiEdit

The only advantage of MultiEdit is that it has a powerful macro programming language. But when do you need it? If you want to do complicated things with a text file, it seems better to use a specialized tool such as Perl. Berend Or Ruby :D for that matter. I think that if you like TextPad (and you ...

Re: MultiEdit

Sorry, you must not have noticed my subject header. I should have stated it explicitly in the text. I was wondering what people that of MultiEdit. Oooops, sorry for not reading carefully. MultiEdit, has probably a lot more features than the other editors mentioned here (up to now). As far as I can ...

BTW: Two other editors

BTW, two other editors I know of are
Edit plus and TSE Pro (resp. Jr).
I used the semware editor to write my thesis back in the old days and was really happy with it. Today it may be a bit outdated due to the 'dosish' user interface.

Re: MultiEdit

What do you guys think of this editor? :?: Which one do you mean? Both (TextPad and UltraEdit) have pros and cons. I personally have paid for both, but I curently use only TextPad. It's clean, fast, does what I need, and works straight forward (almost always). TextPad's not so strong points are Mac...

Re: Quick vs. Clean Programming

In other post http://www.textpad.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3077 , Stephan hits the nail on the head: Why don't we see more well-written software? Thanks. I reallyappreciate others that seem to see the same problems as I do. Deadlines can be one reason, but more often than not, the programmer is dis...

Re: Why do we build such crap?

Why don't we build great software? Nebulous specifications. Mutable specifications. Limited budgets. Design by committee. Limited (absurd) time-frames. We don't really understand the problem domain. The last item is key to understanding the success of Textpad. Programmers have a very clear and comp...

It is unheard of for software to be largely unchanged and in widespread use after more than ten years. Helios got it right a long time ago, and has been incrementally and subtly refining the state of the art ever since. Funny enough, this is what we (as users) really want: Stable software, easily u...
