You can do as tallyrand suggests and create another syntax definition file that is not assigned to any document class and then manually switch over using the file properties dialog below. http://img.skitch.com/20090302-et4jgrdksj1c33x2y1xht576et.png Not pretty but it should work I think. Hope this h...

Yes, you can make it work like the old version. Go to the preferences and de-select the checkboxes shown below:

I suspect that this plea will fall on deaf ears. The conclusion I have come to is that Helios will not speculate on future features. As I’ve said before that’s their right but cuts both ways. Looking back at the top 10 most requested features from 2004, it looks like this: Editable Macros Expand...

Hex Editor (as opposed to viewer)

Hex editing has been talked about here in the past as one of the limitations of the current version of TextPad. Users have recommended XVI32.

I found another Hex Editor which might be useful to TextPad users. It's called HxD and is also Freeware.

I've actually got a copy of HE_TERMINAL available here. I can’t remember where I got it but I used it for coding for quite a long time before I switched to other fonts. If you send me a PM with your details I will send you a copy. It would also recommend taking a look at Deja Vu Sans Mono, a fixed...

The only way I could find to do this on a text file was using Visual Basic. Sorry.

There have been a couple of posts on this in the past and they are available here and here . I would say that the Mac is still well-served with good text editors but it’s worth reiterating some of the choices available. You can run TextPad itself on your new machine in a number of ways: Dual booti...

Is this any use http://www.extrabit.com/plaintextclipboard/?

I might give this one a try myself. I use a VB macro to accomplish this in MS Word because of the brain dead way that the application sometimes pastes in formatting.

The find in files dialog has a checkbox to include binary files in the search. If you leave this unchecked and search for files matching *.* it should do what you want.

Hope this helps.

I would say Beyond Compare is one of the great Windows applications and pretty essential for anyone who writes code of any sort. Araxis Merge is a similar program but not as capable in my view and a lot more expensive.

I was looking for something more like what Wikipedia does. Where it highlights the specific words (with a yellow background) and makes it INCREDIBLY easy to see changes between two documents or revisions. Just to clarify Beyond Compare does show changes to individual words although not with a yello...

I tried running Textpad's built in file comparison to see how this differed from what you are after. Unfortunately the application crashes each time I try to view the Tool Outputs window. Is the Compare files... utility within the application insufficient? It might ne worth trying Beyond Compare to ...

Unfortunately while I reckon this might be possible there's no way to make this kind of highlight stick in a plain text file. I guess it could be added to a project file that contains info about the text files but the danger is that any changes outside the project corrupt that data. You can do this ...
