Toolbar Icons

I agree with your general suggestion--it would be good to have a toolbar equivalent for every menu item or command. Please no. My worry would be that you end up with an UltraEdit-style interface where every menu and context menu is littered with inpenetrable icons. There may be an argiment for rais...

Not 'Broken'

It's a really nice editor, but it's "broken" and it needs to be fixed. TextPad is not 'broken' given that we all continue to use it everyday. There are a large number of feature requests and a small number of bugs (go to the known problems forum and display messages messages from the last...

Forum Avatars

I have just noticed that forum avatars are no longer being displayed although an image is loaded when a page is opened/refreshed.

Is this a permanent change? An announcement along the lines of that used for their introduction might be useful.

Thinking about it after I posted, the only thing I ever need to do (and rarely - it seems to be a bug bug in Windows 2000 explorer reading WinNT 3.51 files with no recognised extension!) that Manage Files would do for me is touch files to change date attributes. As some have stated in the parallel F...

Manage Files...

With the recent thread on the value of built-in FTP I was wondering how much use the Manage Files command gets in day-to day use.

I can honestly say that I have never used it but wondered whether a large number of users find it particularly useful.

I guess not, but there is a table of analogs of Windows software in Linux that specifically mentions TextPad at: http://linuxshop.ru/linuxbegin/win-lin-soft-en/table.shtml#3 Some of the editors listed might be worth a try. To me though they look like the usual mix of homebrew Linux projects and vari...

Just out of interest, in this day and age, what do people use hex editors for? In my case trying to make sense of the content of obscure binary files but this is generally for viewing only. The last time I had to actually edit in anger was on a Psion to force memo recordings to use the D: drive to ...

The current and future releases of Word should be much easier to interpret with TextPad where they use XML (WordML) as the document format.

And/or just a radio button to grey out files and folders options to enable a search in the current workspace.

I thought I should get involved in this as I started the previous thread on monospaced fonts . There is an Arial Monospace font already available but it looks like it would involve paying some money for it. Andale mono is an excellent alternative and available for free download - I think it may even...

One thing that just occurred to me is that your Mac-owning colleague will need to make sure document encodings and line endings are set correctly. Something like BBEdit supports Windows and Unix line endings plus encodings from Mac Roman, Windows-1252. through to UTF-8 or UTF-16 (both big- and littl...

The Mac is pretty well-served with good text editors. You could use the application TextEdit that comes with a Mac but in my experience it works better as cut-down word processor than as a text editor. I am not aware of direct equivalent to TextPad on the Mac but the following (listed in order of co...

When you say
copied the license file to the install directory
do you mean that you physically moved the file there? I believe you need to open TextPad, select the registration menu item and paste the contents of the licence file into the window.

This should do it.

Cheers,
