It's a question that I suspect a lot of users would be interested in knowing the answer to I guess. I reckon that this could be achieved without building up expection for specific release dates by focussing on features but not timescales e.g. 5.0 - 5.4 overhaul UI, 5.5 editable macros and built-in ...

Best Text Editors

I see that LifeHacker is running a poll on the best text editor. TextPad has made it through to the final as a nominated editor

Well there isn't many new features ...

You need to perform the following search and replace: Find what: ^\* Replace with: <nothing> With regular expression enabled and POSIX regular expression syntax enabled in the general preferences. The ^ character anchors the search to the start of a line and the backslash makes the search look for a ...

I'm not sure this is completely straightforward. Do you need handle URLs of the form http://slashdot.org or www.google.co.uk?

Could you post a bigger sample?

If you are using Firefox you can force a refresh using <Shift> + <Reload>. I don't know if this works in IE as I am stuck at IE6 and don't use it often in any case.

Hope this helps.

I've tried running similar searches from my memory stick but this doesn't seem repeatable. The only reason that the regex is unticked is that I was playing around to see what parameter might have been causing the problem. I'm not too worried about this as it has been so rare to have problems with TP ...

TextPad Crash!

TexPad hanging up would be more accurate but in all the years I've used TextPad I don't think I've ever had a crash or hang. I was running a search and replace on a very basic CSV file and nothing too clever in the search. When I tried to close the search and replace dialog I had the error message ...

I agree these are useful features to have in a file that can open and view large text file. I would suggest that rather than a command line argument this should be tied into the existing syntax definitions available in TextPad. So if a file is type *.log or *.err or *.trace the documents opens as ...

I would suggest that if you need Unicode support now then it may be time to give up. The recent updates to TextPad don't suggest (to me at least) that Unicode support is a priority at the moment. There are other products (EmEditor comes to mind * as an example) that do provide good Unicode support ...

My speculation would be that this is unlikely. Running TextPad under Crossover is probably the best workaround at the moment though not ideal.

If I ever buy a HTML editor again it probably will be BBedit, running both on MAC and PC. Are you saying you will run BBEdit under Windows? Not possible I think but it would be a better world if it were. On the subject of Unicode support, I reckon the release of 5.0 and then 5.1 may indicate that ...

Postscript: For a while now I've been using PopChar from Egronis Software.

It's expensive for what it does but it does do it well and is much better than Windows built in equivalent.[/img]

Do you mean users of Textpad, or users of this forum ? Users of this forum. Whether you can be bothered to contribute to this forum or not depends on your temperament and inclination to do so, so don't you patronize us silent "serious" users, thank you very much. It certainly wasn't intended to ...
