How do I turn "Warm Start" off?
When I re-boot some of my Windows 10 machines, Textpad tries to restart where (it thinks) I was the last time I was using it. I believe it even happens when Textpad wasn't even open when I began the re-boot. It doesn't work RIGHT for me, and even if it did, I'd rather that it didn't do it. Can I ...

Ben- you are a star! I had wandered forlornly around the wretched Windows settings. Not long enough. Eventually found it.... Windows Settings Then either search on "measure", or go down... Time & Language Region (scroll down)... Additional date, time ... ARGH!!!... the two "same" machines don't ...

SOLVED: Units: page setup margins inches millimeters
I have two Windows 10 PCs. Set up "the same". (Ha.) Both running Textpad 8.1.2 (64 bit) File/ Page setup on one shows margin in millimeters. The other uses inches. How can I change one to match the other?? Silly question, but I spent half an hour at Google and searching this forum before starting ...

Thank you for "check other... classes..." Good idea! Probably something as "stupid"... But alas, no. --- (Later... 06 Mar 19)... Yep. As suspected. A silly gotcha. In the Configure/ Prefs/ Document Classes/ Pascal entry... the same would apply across all document classes... In the "files in class ...

SOLVED: Turn on syntax highlighting- a "gotcha"
(Snipped to reduce to stuff that mattered) I want to use syntax highlighting on .pas files. Using Textpad 8.1.2 (64 bit) Used "Configure/ New Document Class". Used the already-present "pascal.syn" syntax definition file. Didn't seem there were many places to go wrong in the process! (Another PC ...

Make it always show line numbers
I want line numbers shown all the time. I've had this as default for a long time. "Upgraded" (bah) to Windows 10. Using TP 8.1.2 (64bit)... can't get the "View/ Line Numbers" option to "stick". Yes... closed all but one instance of Textpad. Even closed ALL instances, opened ONE new one, selected ...

SOLVED: Preventing (re-) "Save Workspace" on exit
I've recently put textpad on a new (Win (expeletive) 10) pc. I've only just noticed that it (Textpad) saves the workspace every time I exit. I hadn't noticed it did this to me on the past! (But find now that this IS what it does, at least on XP/ Textpad 5.0.3 and Win10/ Textpad 8.1.2) this may ...

SOLVED: File-Rename always grayed out
For many years, I've appreciated the "Rename" command in the "File" menu, for a variety of reasons. I recently, sigh, moved to Windows 10. Installed the then current Textpad (8.1.2, 64 bit) At first. the File/rename command is always grayed out, unusable.... at least it always was when I went to use ...

There was a time when if you had the following open... AppleEssay.txt FishEssay.txt .... And then started a new doc (ctrl-N), that opened, initially, as "Document1", between Apple and Fish. And if you then saved it as ZooEssay, it was STILL between Apple and Fish, not AFTER them, where it would be ...

Thank you, AmigoJack... I launched Textpad "the ordinary" way, i.e. with the button installed for me during a routine, un-fancy install of the program. Tried to check how launched as per your guide... quess what... doesn't work that way in (expeletive) Windows 10. But checked shortcut... it was JUST ...

SOLVED-"File not found" "Try again"
Used Textpad for years. Ver 5.0.3 (32 bit) on WinXP: If I try to open a (.txt or .htm... any file, I suspect) file that doesn't exist, I get a helpful "...does not exist. Create the file?". Lovely feature!! Windows (expeltive) 10; Textpad ver 8.1.2 (64 bit): "File not found. Check the file name and ...

WoW! Many thanks! That DID restore the "read only" tick-box. Now THAT's service!! I simply shut down all running instances of Textpad 5.4... didn't un-install... and ran the new file. I got a good message about "performing update".. and when the update was done, re-ran Textpad. All was well. I was ...

"Read only" tickbox in open dialog-SOLVED
Two XP computers. Two installations of Textpad, ver 5.2.0 on one, 5.4 on the other. On one, when I use the Textpad "File | Open" dialog, there is a tickbox that lets me choose to open a file in read only mode. On the other PC, slightly newer Textpad, the "read only" tickbox is absent. I don't think ...

It works! Don't be put off if your first attempts to configure your hightlight colors are not successful. It is worth the small amount of effort required. Note: The terms "Foreground" and "Background" are a little strained in the context of setting the "Current Line" setting. If you WANT all the ...
