I had the same problem, but found a simple if sad solution :

don't use TextPad 5 till they fix this

or is there already an update with a fix?

what's really needed here is a TextPad version that doesn't use the registry to store its settings. After a power shortage caused a headcrash I cannot launch Windows anymore.
