If you copy the page source to Textpad, edit, and the copy back into the edit box the Unicode characters will be replaced by boxes; hence screwing up the inter-language links on Wikipedia. Once again, Unicode support (or at least, not screwing up Unicode characters it doesn't understand) is needed ...

Yes, a syntax def. file for Wikpedia markup would be greatly appreciated, whether by Helios or a contributor. The idea is to paste wikified text from the browser's edit-box into a Texpad page that would supply the decoration (in fact, this might be a different challenge from other syntaxes-- it ...

Yes, let's please stop. Drxenos-- we got off on the wrong foot. I think you might mistake my colloquial way of writing for an attitude problem. I mean no offense, and usually none is taken.

You have a point about avoiding bloat and I believe I have a point about catering to 20 or 30% of users who ...

No, no Drxenos. You see, the very moment you say "I disagree", your dissatisfaction with the argument is fully implied. To add "specious", aside from being redundant, is ad-hominem. Really, I'm serious. If you're sincere about getting along with people better, take this to heart.

If you insist on ...

I would like to ask everyone that we keep this discourse on a professional level and focus on the pros and cons of the integration of non-local file manipulation into TextPad.

You are, of course, correct. I just get annoyed when someone attempts to win an argument with pomp or patronization. Nor ...

I fail to see how a program that sits there round-the-clock is going to waste any more RAM than the increased footprint for TextPad as it adds this functionality.

As I just revealed to Drxenos... the increased footprint of Textpad is *all gone* when Textpad is closed. Something like Webdrive ...

Your arguments are specious at best. You think the RAM requires of an FTP client will suddenly disappear if it is integrated into another program? Besides, as cheap and abundant as RAM is these days, are you really that strapped for memory?
You should think a little more before hauling out words ...

MudGuard, don't fall into the fallacy that all, or even most, users are like you. I work with a loose network of programmers and all of us, when working from home on Windows machines, basically need FTP capability only to throw text files (typically Java, C and Perl source code) from our drives to ...

IMO... adding FTP functionality into TextPad is a boneheaded idea. I doubt that 5% of TextPad customers would use it regularly, and it's simply not in the application mandate. What happens when FTP goes out of style? (it is already happening) Do they need to add sFTP? WebDAV? YourFavoriteRepository ...

Ick, I would hope to the high heavens that people are not changing code on a production site with TextPad or anything that yields non-reproducible efforts.
Come come now, Talleyrand. What makes you think TextPad can only be used outside versioned production environments? For those of us unlucky ...

Berend, the text editor occupies a unique position for programmers, web developers, etc., They are using the text editor so much that any functions normally done via an OS or 3rd party interface which can be reasonably incorporated into the editor interface represent a real gain in efficiency. Personally, I hope TP will never implement this feature, and instead aim their programming efforts at what TP is made for: Text editing.

Textpad guys blind to goodness of FTP Save-As capability?

I've looked over past threads here dealing with FTP capability within TextPad and was surprised to see the people suggesting this feature get blown off. They were told to use a third-party prog like WebDrive, or write their own batch files using the DOS FTP utility, etc.,. But far and away the best ...
