Understood. This isn't my first new document class. :)

I can't yet rule out pebcak, but I have indeed quit and restarted TP5 and re-opened the files and they still don't highlight. I added *.pl,*pm as my file types, selected the out-of-the-box perl.syn, and nada. Files continue to display in black ...

Answered my own question: TP4 and TP5 are now running side by side without any visible problems (yet).

I forgot to mention my biggest annoyance with TP5: I defined a Perl document class and clicked Use syntax highlighting with the built-in perl.syn file. Doesn't do any syntax highlighting. I'm sure ...

I also stuck with 4.7.3 until last Friday (2010-10-29) when I needed to reinstall Textpad on a brand-new Windows 7 installation. Today I think I'm going to switch back.

I wanted to ask what was new in TextPad 5 and what made it a major upgrade. Aside from the fact that it was completely rewritten ...

What do you mean said nothing? Unless i'm blind they answered my questions. If you are looking for other answers you could ask them.

I think 'nothing' in the general sense that everyone has grown accustomed to over the past three years. "We're working on it and it will be released at some ...

There are two parts to it:

1. Create a new document class
2. Create a syntax definition file

The document class is based on file type. For me, I said any file that ends in .todo is a "Todo List File".

Part of defining the document class is specifying your colors, font, tabs, etc. These are all up ...

Todo lists in TextPad

I spend a lot of time in TextPad and like to keep track of what I'm doing in a little "todo" file. (Switching to another program is a pain. I'm already in TextPad anyway!) Trouble is, every time I close and re-open the file, my special tab settings are lost.

Document Classes to the rescue!!! I don ...

Hmmm... Interesting idea. I may give this a shot!

Although, if anyone else gets to it first, I hope the file is called mediawiki.syn and not wikipedia.syn.

Well, you could use line wrapping. Create a line with 80 characters in it, drag the window until it's just that width. Then, when a line wraps, you know you've gone too far.

Not ideal, but it might get you by.

I don't know if he's actually giving it that name. I have this exact same problem when my web host provider gives me my raw apache logs. They're named (out of my control) error_log-domain-name.com.

I just removed it from the list of Binary files. (I didn't add it to Text.)

If your mouse is over the horizontal scroll bar, you'll scroll horizontally with the mouse wheel. Anywhere else will give you normal vertical scrolling.

What I would like to see is a way for that window remember its previous settings. It always (for me, at any rate) opens in List mode. Often I will switch to Details mode, and sort by time (since I'm looking for recently modified files). The next time I open this dialog, it's back to List.

True, but if someone doesn't know the solution to their problem involves the use of regex's, what would make them think to post there?
