That's normal for a lot of apps. Textpad is one of the worst.

I tend to use a subversion source control repository and check the files out onto my local disk and work locally as it's much more reliable (and you get source control!).

The <!--#include ... --> section is a "server side include". This basically replaces a part of the HTML document with another one (allowing easy implementation of templates etc). You need to use a web server to display these files in their complete form as the #include directive is process...

No hints - positive proof! I integrated Textpad via DDE into a fairly extensive asset tracking system for an MoD contractor. There are over 600 distinct users in the company (all paid for!) I don't work there now but the fact that a new version hasn't been around for ages and Helios aren't saying an...

Better communications!!

Textpad needs better communications between their customers and themselves.

We're tired of the "god moves in mysterious ways" type posts.

Ironically I've been using Dreamweaver MX 2004 for the last week and it's quite nice :)

I think a positive statement from Helios would be good here rather than the usual non-committal statement and thread closure.

This is the worst way to treat your customers.

Do use SSI - it's incredibly powerful if you have an apache host (using #echo #set and #exec) and is as reliable as static html. The BBC of all people use ONLY SSI to drive their entire web site. I've built several *very* large commercial sites entirely with SSI including our own site (which is sti...

They are probably on holiday - I know I should be! It's summer holiday here in the UK at the moment where people nip off to foreign lands (like Bognor) to trash hotels (if you can call them that) and leave pools of vomit everywhere... Just use webdrive (it maps an ftp server to a local disk) and work off the disk: http://www.southrivertech.com/ Filesystem access should be transparent via the operating system, not implemented by specific applications (look at UNIX for example for a good model of filesystem implementation and integ...
