I lost my macros when converting to v5.0. Now when attempting to re-record my macros I notice the macro works fine while recording but when playing it back nothing happens. as an example I'm doing a search for ^ + ( there is a space between ^ and +) and replace with nothing to remove leading spaces ...

Yes. under the tools menu select compare files. The compare file function in textpad is pretty basic. All you get is a list of the differences if there are any . It'll work ok for a match / no match. If you need to compare and merge then are more powerful tool will be required. I'm currently playing...

Is there a way to to have Textpad change the color of the characters that have been edited in a file? I am updating some files to current standards and I need to keep track of what in the file I have edited.

Has anybody managed to get the Palm eBook Studio (it's an ebook creator) to work as a tool in Textpad?
I have no experience with textpad tools and I'm hoping to copy the setup of somebody who got it to work.
Otherwise I'll just have to do it the hard way.

Clipmate's regex works only on what's already on the clipboard, so to your question I would have to say no.

Haven't tested it myself but Clipmate has a pause command that you can try.

See if a pause helps.
Edit the Paste Ctrl+V string in tools | options | pasting | edit.
Add a preamble to the "paste ctrl+v" string:

#PAUSE#
