You can do it TextPad as follows: Paris in the\nspringtime I hope this helps. That only works in the regular find (within a file). In the "Find in Files" dialog, textpad gives an error if the search string contains a "\n". I need to do the search across multiple files. Mitch

Find in files - can it search across line breaks?

Is there a way that I can search for a string that may occur across a line break?

For example, if the file contains the two lines

Paris in the
springtime

I'd like to be able to find it using this (or any other) regex:

"Paris.*springtime"

Can "Find in files" return the match and previous

Is it possible for the results from a "find in files" to return the matching line and the two previous lines?

for example, if the file contains the lines

one
two
three
four

a search for "three" would return

one
two
three

I did not move to a new PC, so exporting from hkey current user, then importing to hkey current user, may not work. I found my old license code, so I'll just start "clean". Maybe I'll check out the latest version of TP while I'm at it.

Thanks.

inregistered after an "IT" change

IT moved me to a new domain which came with a new user name. Now TP thinks I am unregistered. TP also seems to have forgotten many preferences such as window placement. I didn't see any Heliosor TextPad related folders under documents and settgins (which is where a lot of my other stuff got lost too ...
