Binary mode not displaying all characters

Using TextPad 8.1.2 (64-bit Edition).

I have a file which is... approximately Windows-1252 encoded (the correct encoding isn't important for this issue).
Opening the file in Binary mode to display what's really there, I see:

Can you be more specific - does this happen with just a few documents? If so, which ones?

Create a new document just containing the text "Hello world". What happens when you print it?

Just in case somebody else has this problem:

After upgrading from TextPad 7 to 8 on Windows 10, I thought the start menu jump list was broken: no new files were being added.

The problem was that the file types weren't associated with TextPad 8: the jump list works on file associations, not on ...

I've must have been using TextPad for at least 15 years. Today, for the first time ever - it crashed! TextPad 8.0.2, Windows 10. Selected "Open with TextPad" from Windows Explorer file right-click menu, and the program locked: no error messages, won't accept any form of input, using ~55% CPU time ...

How do you do that in TextPad 7? Is ANSI the same as ASCII? The choices I have are ANSI, DOS, UTF-8, UTF-16 and UTF-16BE.

Bug report: Find in Files checks binary files

Running "Find in Files" with the "Binary files" tickbox turned off still seems to check binary files: I get warnings about "line too long" from .dll and .exe files.
