I can report the same issue.
When re-opening files saved as UTF-8, they opened as ANSI - Latin 1 and are therefore corrupted.

Hey guys - does Textpad support emojis? I'm opening a file that contains them and getting the "WARNING contains characters that do not exist in code page 1252..."

1. Configure menu > Preferences
2. Document Classes > Default > Colours - go down the 7th item in the select list which is "current line" - change the background colour to something bright.

Unfortunately you need to do that for each document class

STILL HAPPENING IN v8

Argh - I just PAID to upgrade to version 8 thinking maybe this bug would be fixed but nope - it's still there! How is it that TextPad is the ONLY app I've ever used on Windows 10 that does this - it's an extremely frustrating distraction.
