This appears to work OK for MOST lines - i.e TextPad inserts a hard line break when I save the file with the appropriate extension - but NOT all! I've got lines of anything up to 68 characters. What's more, some of the lines DON'T end in a line break. This line wrapping is a problem for me too! :-(...

Yes, a ruler tool would be fine! And a double click on a ruler position could mark a column of the whole file (see also double click at the left of a row). :P I'm working with CSV files and have to add or remove columns in large files.
