I confirmed that this worked on 7.6.4. So it broke somewhere in the transition to 8, but I don't know exactly when.

Given that it worked until 8.x, I would consider this a bug that needs to be fixed.

TP 8.1.2 on Win7SP1.

I have a SQL Syntax file that has the @@ variables in Keywords3, along with all of the built-in functions. Somewhere along the line, I suspect in 8.x, the @@ variables stopped being colored, even though the functions themselves are.

There is a consensus, however the word is defined (nothing like a pedant to liven up a forum). The consensus is that TP shouldn't be doing what it is doing, which is to lock up.

As already stated, no other editor does that. What choices they make, and what choice TP would make, are not the issue ...

I don't really think it depends on anyone's point of view. It's a bad user experience. It's always been a bad user experience. It's one of the few small list of things I hate about Textpad. 7.1.0 on Win7 Ultimate

7.1 appears to have broken regular expressions. Simplest text case: put several new lines in a new file, then replace "^" with "(". It will say "xx replaced", where xx is the number of blank lines, but there's nothing there. IOW, no parentheses were added.

For the record, that's … not obvious at best, odd at worst. If I run "textpad7 junk.junk", the file has an extension, that extension is not .txt, .junk is not one of the extensions in the Text class, so there's no ...

How do I check that? I'm certainly not specifying one on the command line. I deleted the 5.0 directory in that tree, just to make sure, but it made no difference.

Admin? Can you confirm this? I work in a mixed environment, and this is causing all sorts of problems when I forget to change the type (which I usually do since I've never had to worry about it before).

I just double-clicked in Explorer on a (text) file with a non-standard extension, got the Windows dialog that said it couldn't open the file, clicked the "Select a program from the list of installed programs" option, chose Textpad, and the file was opened normally.

I upgraded my OS and re-installed TextPad, and now it when search gets to the last match in a file, hitting the FindNext key doesn't beep and start over at the top of the file. I've looked everywhere I can think of in Preferences, on every menu, etc., and am not seeing what controls that behavior ...
