I don't know what 'fixed' the problem but after many occurrences it has stopped.

After installing Textpad 6 I moved all my .syn files to the TextPad 6 subdirectory and removed the TextPad 5 subdirectory structure. Unfortunately now I cannot fix the following error as I don't know what to modify to repair the path. (And there are no paths in this file [text.syn].) I also tried to ...
