A proble I've got is that I'll open the "error" file for a process to view with textpad. Every time I re-run the process and go back to textpad, it asks me if I want to update - great! I reload the errors and see what's left to deal with. The only down side is that if there are no errors, no file is ...

I think that the problem with your proposed solution is that filename and path information will be lost.

This exists in another tool I use and I often find myself wishing it was in Textpad - from the main menu one selects "Window->Close All Except Active" and all the files except the one currently being edited close (with appropriate save/discard dialog boxes as required)
