IMPORT / EXPORT Preferences

Post by LDARBY »

I would like the ability to export and import my preferences so I can easily keep my work and home machines configured the same.

YES, this would be great.
The format of the saved preferences should be human-readable (perhaps XML) to edit it manually if one wants to.
And "partial" preference files should be supported, i.e. values not specified in the file simply remain unchanged rather than causing "bad format error"! Thus one can add (import) - for example - some Document Classes without affecting others.

I agree since I work both at home and at work. Some sort of .INI file that can be edited by Textpad (of course!)

You already can do this. Just export what is in your registry. Be careful about merging it, though, if you are not already very proficient in Windows internals kinds of stuff. There are other posts about this (related to portability) - maybe search on that. There isn't a good synching ability, but you could write batch files or scripts to do the job.
