Dcitionary Problem - Infinite Loop

I'm hoping that this is a known problem but I've come across the following today and would appreciate help fixing it. Thanks.

I performed a spell check on a file, and it reaches a point where the spell check never ends. I have to exit Textpad from the Task Manager.

Now I may be misunderstanding this but what I think is happening is that the spell check finds a TLA that is in the user dictionary set to replace any lower case version of it by the same letters but in upper case.

It seems to make a replacement, find the same word, replace it again, ad infinitum.

How does one set it to either not recheck the word again after it's fixed it, or to understand the difference between replacing a lower case (or mixed case) version and leaving an upper case version unaltered ?

Have you tried (under the spelling wndow) options>"Ignore words in capitals only"?
