Comparing files just by eye is sometimes simpler

If you have two files that are almost identical, but just differ by the odd character here and there, it is sometimes just simpler to compare the files by eye, like the astronomers do for differences in star field photos.

The tip is to use the document selector, together with either the {Ctrl-Up} or {Ctrl-Down} key combinations to flip quickly between the two files. You can even leave the keys pressed down to see the differences toggle continuously.

The trick is to leave the mouse cursor in the document selector before you start using these keys.

If the files are longer than a screenful, you can continue further comparisons below the first page if you switch on synchonized scrolling.
