Is it worth updating the toolbar icons?

Toolbar icons either too small or too big - need redesign

Post by matthewslyman »

The toolbar icons in TextPad are either too big or too small. They look very old-fashioned and not particularly ergonomic.

With the right-click/ customize option, on the third tab of the dialog box that pops up, I have an option to view large icons; but the choice is between having them tiny and fiddly, or having them huge and inconvenient. Can we not have something in-between? They really do look stupid on my Windows 7 based computer with a new 23-inch 1920x1080 pixel widescreen. They look like something from the early 1990's (under Windows 3.1 or 95) and text size/ use of space is not ergonomic for my new screen (which is becoming much more common, especially for software developers.)

A new set of buttons, along with some improved routines for detecting screen resolution and automatically adjusting the user-interface defaults, would be very welcome and would make TextPad significantly more user-friendly. Granted, updating the icons might take second-place to creating Linux and Apple ports of TextPad... But it really is worthwhile, and before long this will start to make a significant difference to many of your customers.

You're absolutely right, the toolbar icons are shocking. In fact, the main reason I don't use the toolbars at all is because they are so damn ugly. And that "Find" icon - what the hell is that?!

It would also be good if the toolbars could share the same row as the menu bar. That way, the Incremental Find toolbar (among others) could occupy the blank space to the right of the Help menu.
