Unfortunately, I won't be able to continue posting the enhancement rankings list. I can't believe it's been a year and four months already! I would also appreciate someone adopting the TextPad regular expression FAQ and "macro analysis" web pages (see http://www.jeffyjeffy.com/textpad/ ).

Could someone please take these over? I have posted the latest ranking code and configuration at

This code will remain available for download until the end of October (although I can always email it to you). Note that it depends on the latest XBN Java jar archive, available at xbnjava.sourceforge.net.

I would offer to pick this up Jeffy, but I don't have the expertise in java that I think this would require. But perhaps I can share the burden with others.

This has been great to monitor, I only hope that Helios will actually do something with the high ranking items.

I will take a look at the links you posted tomorrow, but don't think I will be able to replace you.

Thanks for doing this over the past year and a half. Stay in the neighborhood, we can use your monitoring in the background.

Just my 0.02 USD here, perhaps it's time to rest the list until the next major version (4.8 or even 5.0), not much moving on it for the last months or so. Start fresh whenever Helios decides to do a major?

Has the poll ranking gone to ground ?
Do Helios use their own CVS in house to track adding features and fixing bugs ?
Would it be better to make an online survey using the suggestions and make it more statistically representative (email sent to registered users and forum members). Link user demographics (gender, age, location, job title etc), a few general questions/features from Helios, subset of enhancement suggestions allowing direct ranking (same user answers all Q's, same denominator for each Q). Appropriate list of choice with option for those who say "I don't understand the question" or should they use the middle choice of "I don't care".

Sometimes the questions can become multi-part and interrelated. Should this feature/version only be offered to paying/registered users. If we don't do it "this way" would it be OK if we only do it "this other way". Have it in the base EXE, uses separate file or add-in... Sometimes its not just the feature but the implementaion.

This poll ranking was done voluntarily in the past by Jeffy, who was an end user like the rest of us. He was not associated with Helios. Some time ago he indicated that he would no longer be able to provide this support and asked if anyone wanted to continue it. I do recall replying to see if I could help but I don't know what he decided to do finally. If he is still watching, then I am sure he will jump in.

I have noticed that many polls did not follow his basic requirement of 5 items with same phrasing for options. So his routine was unable to include those items and they were listed separately, and the statistics were skewed by the absence of those polls. But that was the fault of the poll designer, not Jeffy's fault. We do miss his contribution. Maybe someone else will pick up and create their own program to maintain this again....
