Find in files function: add a current document checkbox

Post by mpniel »

To simply run the Find in Files function on the current open document, just add a checkbox to be able to flag this option.
This would be very usefull in case of large documents, having to find all the occurences of a word.
I know it can be done now also, but it would save lot of time to have this check box instead of typing the current file name and directory, which are very known to the system.

I must be confused because I don't understand what you are doing here:
typing the current file name and directory,
How are you doing a Find now for the current document that means you have to type in a name and directory?

Have you tried adding the Search Toolbar to your view?
One click opens Find, vs. doing Edit, Find clicks.
Hope this was helpful.............good luck,
Bob

I am sorry again Bob but i'am afraid you didn't get my point.
I am talking about "Find in Files" function and NOT the Find function.

At least for the directory, you can press the "Defaults" button to get the directory of the current file.

And yes, a "This file" and "All open files" would be very useful - sometimes you just want to see the search results in one place (in the search result window)

I'd vote for an additional button (ie "Show all") on the "normal" find dialog for that.

I'd vote for additional checkboxes (ie "Show first n occurrences"), (ie "Show last n occurrences") in the "normal" find.
Alternatively, additional checkboxes (ie "Curend document"), (ie "All documents") in the "Find in Files".

"Show search results" option in Find dialog

Post by jhmagnus »

I vote for a "Show search results" boolean option in the Find dialog, giving a "Search results" window with a list of all occurrences in the open document(s), identical to the "Find In Files" functionality.

This gives a good overview, and it enables browsing through the hits with F4, across documents.

I very often need this, but at the moment I have to make a Find files in a given directory to get this behaviour. I find this to be is an unnecessary detour.
