Re: How to make File Explorer open files in new instances of TextPad

That's a configuration option. You can set it using Configure » Preferences » General » Put shortcut on context menu. Note that when that option is set, File Explorer locks ShellExt64.dll in the system folder of TextPad's installation folder, so it will entail a reboot after any updates to TextPad. ...

Re: Column number below scroll bar in 9.x

The left hand end of the status bar which is used for displaying messages is stretchable, but has a minimum width which is a quarter of the width of the primary screen. If TextPad is on a second screen with lower resolution, this may make it too long to leave room for the fixed indicators, so they a...

Re: Current problems with 9.3

When TextPad opens files for reading, it locks them for shared reading and writing. Hence, it can read an active log file, or a file being backed up, if the other process has it open in a similar mode. If the file cannot be opened due to a sharing violation, TextPad retries a few times, with a short...

Which anti-virus software do you use? If not Microsoft's, try temporarily disabling it while opening workspaces with auto-reload or prompt modifications set. If that makes no difference, please describe your environment. E.g.: Are changes prompted for or auto-reloaded? How many files are in your wor...

How to silently install TextPad with a multi-user license

Assumptions: Knowledge of Windows Command Prompt commands and environment variables . Your download folder is at C:\Users\ your-login-id \Downloads. (i.e. %HOMEPATH%\downloads) If you prefer, you can drag and drop the files using File Explorer, rather than using the command prompt copy and move com...

Re: Matching 0 or more spaces in searches

TextPad 5's regular expressions are not Perl compatible. Its regular expressions are based on the ones used at that time by grep in Unix.

Zero or more horizontal space characters can be matched using "[ \t]*".

How to make File Explorer open files in new instances of TextPad

TextPad's installer creates registry entries which are used by File Explorer to open files in a single instance of TextPad. This behaviour can be changed by extracting "textpad9-multi-inst.reg" from the attached zip file and double clicking it in File Explorer. To revert to the default beh...

Re: TP 9.1 hangs with network shares after upgrade from 8.15

Thanks for your feedback. When you timed file opening, was the file opened in an already running instance of TextPad, or in a new instance? Also, was it opened by file type association with File Explorer, or internally with the Open File dialog box? Modified to add: Does it make any difference if yo...

Re: Upgrading problems (also solved but but)

Sorry you've been having problems. TextPad only transfers from the previous major release, when upgrading. You could uninstall v9, install and run v8 to get your v7 config, then install and run v9. Windows 11 prefers that you make associations in File Explorer, rather than in each application. Howev...

Try deleting or renaming the following file, after exiting from TextPad:

%APPDATA%\Helios\TextPad\9\GUIConfig.xml

It will be recreated when TextPad next exits.
