Does it help to change that?

without knowing the macro it's hard to say what goes wrong.

Go to Configure -> Preferences, then Macros, select the macro for your list conversion, and press Edit.

Then copy the stuff from "commands" to here. Preferably in a code block.

Go to preferences, Keyboard, select Zoom in Categories, then one of the three commands, set focus in "Press key" field, then press the combination you want to assign, then click Assign.

You can assign more than one combination to a command ...

Are you sure the zoom shortcuts are there by default?
In my textpad, they were not there (but now they are ...)

Textpad HAS block selection.

Click on one corner.
Press ALT-SHIFT and click other corner.

Alternative:
Configure -> select "Block Select Mode".

Press SHIFT and click other corner.

Configure -> Preferences -> View -> Tabbed Document Selector -> Stacked

If you remove the check mark, the tabs will stay in one row (with a dropdown at the end which lists all tabs)

Then tabs stay in order if selected.

But my guess is that workspaces store (if at all) the last scroll position, whether you edited at this scroll position or not ...

What do you have selected in the scope section of the replace dialog?
Is it "selected text"?

If so, switch to "active document".

the only thing I can imagine:
check the indentation settings - maybe indentation is configured to use tabs.

where is the cursor located?
And what is the state of the "Wrap" checkbox?

Which document class applies to the document?
And what are the settings in that document class?
