The handling of tabs/spaces for indents is important, too. Makefiles need tabs; Fortran77 needs spaces; most languages don't care. I would buy Textpad for Linux. That aside, my recommendation under Linux/Unix is NEdit. NEdit is a great editor under Linux/Unix. I am not sure how their feature sets compare. I would LOVE code folding.... There are a bunch of ways it could work, though. In Excel, you can hide rows.
