When I load a large file (2,290,840,302 bytes) and then open the Properties dialog, the Properties window says that "Characters" is negative (-2007038244).
I am using version 7.1.0.

large file enhancements
I see that the 64-bit edition is now available. I no longer get errors when opening very large files. Good work. Now, some suggestions to make opening large files even better. 1) It takes a long time for TextPad to open a very large file. Give the user the option to cancel the open. 2) When a very l...

clip library as menu
The clip library is useful. I don't want it open all the time. Currently, I open it, use it, and then close it, but it would save a few mouse clicks and a little time if I could mount a clip library "book" as a menu. Then I could achieve the same thing with 1 click on the menu and 1 click ...

pin file to history
It would be nice if there was the ability to "pin" a file to the list of recent files on the File menu. That way, even if you open 20 other files, the file you have pinned is always there.
MS Word 2008 does this.

Preferences > File > When files are modified by another process > Ignore Ignoring file changes for everything is not ideal. For some files, I actually do want to know if the file changes. For others, I want to ignore. I do not want to have to turn this feature on or off depending on what file I am ...

I agree about the tools menu. I liked it better when the custom tools were not in a sub-menu. I suggested a right margin line many years ago, even before this forum was set up. I was even thanked for my suggestion but I have yet to see it. Dear Helios: When you change a feature, please include an op...

I also would like this feature, but I don't think it needs to be a feature that you can turn off in the preferences. When TextPad recognizes text can be be folded, there would be a minus (-) sign in the margin. If you don't want to fold the text, just don't click the minus and change it to a plus (+).

I don't think it's possible... What happens when a pointer hovers over a menu item is Windows' business, not an application's, surely? That's true, but the application has control over what Windows displays in the status bar. Why can't TextPad give Windows the full path of the file unstead of just ...
